Welsh Government Budget 2024-2025

  • The Welsh Government has a budget of around £22bn, with about 80% spent on the health service and councils.
  • The NHS has been given an extra £450m in the 2024-25 Welsh Government Budget.
  • There will be no rise in either income tax or land transaction tax in the 2024-25 Welsh Government Budget.
  • There will be £134m of Non Domestic Rates relief (business rates relief).
  • There will be a review of charges for dental care, tuition fees and domiciliary care, all of which could go up.
  • Social Care Wales workforce development grant programme (SCWWDP) will be cut by £11m.
  • The 3.1% increase promised to councils in Wales will be met in the 2024-25 Budget for services like schools, social services, bin collections and leisure services.
  • £3.5m of funding linked to Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol and National Centre for Learning Welsh will be cut.
  • Spending on the environment has been cut including:
    £8.5 from flood risk management
    £2.7m revenue and £1m capital from forestry
    £1.5m from biodiversity, evidence and plant health
    £0.25m from marine projects
    £0.25m from air quality
  • £15.5m will be withdrawn from the Ukraine support scheme.
  • Transport for Wales will need to increase rail fares to help close the gap between income and costs.
  • £7.5m will be removed from police community support officer funding.
  • Business rate relief for pubs, shops and restaurants will be reduced from 75% to 40%.
